Nika Županiča (1876-1961), pesnika Otona Župančiča (1878-1949), sokolskega organizatorja in šolnika Engelberta Gangla (1873-1950) ter pesnika, pisatelja in muzealca Jožeta Dularja (1915-2000.) Tukaj so še spominska plošča padlim borcem osvobodilnega boja in žrtvam fašističnega terorja, spomenik Belokranjskega partizana, ki je delo kiparja Julija Papiča, doprsni kipi maršala Tita in štirih belokranjskih narodnih herojev – Janka Brodariča, Ilije Badovinca, Martina Južne in Franca Kočevarja. Dotaknite se kipov in prepoznajte poteze pomembnih Belokranjcev.
Monuments to Deserving Bela Krajina Natives
The plan for the arrangement of the park in rows in front of the Metlika Castle was designed by Plečnik’s student, Eng. Arch. Gizela Šuklje. In front of the Castle’s entrance there are busts of important Bela krajina’s natives: sculptor Alojz Gangl (1859-1935), ethnologist Dr Niko Županič (1876-1961), poet Oton Župančič (1878-1949), Sokol Society organizer and educator Engelbert Gangl (1873-1950), and poet, author, and museologist Jože Dular (1915-2000). You will also see the memorial plaque dedicated to the fallen national liberation struggle fighters and victims of fascist terror, a monument of the Bela krajina’s partisan by sculptor Julij Papič, busts of Marshall Tito and four Bela krajina’s national heroes – Janko Brodarič, Ilija Badovinac, Martin Južna, and Franc Kočevar. Touch the statues and recognise the features of Bela krajina’s important natives.
