Cerkev Svetega Roka in Kip Alojza Gangla – Kristus osameli popotnik
Stenske slike so najbrž spet Jerebovo delo. V prezbiteriju so slike Jezus kot sodnik s križem v roki, Jezusovo vstajenje in Verne duše prosijo pomoči. Slike so sicer primerne za pokopališko cerkev, saj prikazujejo sodbo, vstajenje in vice.
The Church of Saint Roch and The Statue "Christ - The Lonesome Wanderer" by Alojz Gangl
The Church of St. Roch has three altars. The main one is dedicated to St. Roch who is depicted in an oil painting and as a wood-carved statue. The side altar at the Epistle side is dedicated to St. George and at the Evangelist side to St. Florian. All three are baroque altars, probably the work of a local master Jereb. The upper image at the main altar is an oil painting of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows. The altar of St. George features a wooden statue of the Holy Spirit and the altar of St. Florian is adorned with a wood carved image of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. The wall paintings are also probably Jereb’s work. Paintings depicting Jesus holding a cross, the resurrection of Jesus, and holy souls praying for help in purgatory can be found in the presbytery. The paintings are appropriate for a cemetery-based church since they deal with the themes of judgement, resurrection and purgatory. In the centre of the dome there is a painting of the Coronation of the Virgin. Before you step inside the church explore the relief carving on the doors.
A bronze statue of Christ, the Lonesome Wanderer can be found at the very entrance to the cemetery of St. Roch as it is called by the locals. The statue was made by the Metlika-born sculptor Alojz Gangl. He devised it in 1934 while living in Prague with his hometown of Metlika in mind. Alojz Gangl died in 1935 in Prague. His cremated remains were transported to Metlika and he was laid to rest in the family tomb.
